SuperWoman: A Tribute to the Women of Super

Ilonggo artists made the women of Iloilo Terminal Market popularly known as “Super” the highlight of Women’s Month Celebration. The main lobby of the Iloilo Terminal market was converted into a gallery displaying the portraits of women whose lives are dedicated to their family and to this place the Ilonggos call “Super”.

"White for new beginning, new way of looking at the world, Symbolizes the sacredness of the she, purity, boldness and all the giving qualities of a woman. For courage and kindness." - Ma. Rosalie Zerrudo Artist / Project Adviser

The flagship of the celebration is art installation in public space, where twenty blown up photographs of women vendors were displayed outside their stores. The portraits were taken by the students who wished to shed light on the story of each woman who plays an important role not just to their family but also to the society.

Aside from the art installation, an incredibly talented team of students and other artist collaborators made art performances in several venues including the premises of the University of San Agustin Blanco Hall pavilion, Mabini Ledesma street intersection, and inside the Iloilo Terminal Market. “SuperWoman” also included poetry reading, which was participated by Ilonggo artists who read their poems which encapsulates everyday experiences and the importance of women.

Magbaylohanay kita,
kultura sang sadto nga tini-on
baylo sa mga butang nga halin sa imo kabubut-on
mga dalaga, asawa, nanay lola kag tiya-on

Gapanimaho
ang mga bulak,
daw baho nga
sarang makabulong
sa pagkahidlaw
kang bata nga agi
Sa iya iloy nga ara sa uma.
